The Selma Pierce Fund

United Way of the Mid-Willamette Valley has created the Selma Pierce Fund. Selma devoted her life in service to others and embodied the belief that dedication to improve the quality of life of every individual plays a central role in the development and growth of thriving communities.

Bud Pierce on behalf of the Pierce Family gave their blessing to start the fund.  Bud has expressed the sadness and profound loss he and his family are feeling and knows many people are feeling similarly and need an avenue to make a difference. Both enthusiastic supporters of our endeavors, Bud currently serves as the board chair and Selma contributed her time and support in many of our projects. Her sudden death has shocked all of us.

Selma will be remembered not only as a community leader, public servant and philanthropist, but as a steadfast friend, exemplary mentor, and someone who brightened the room and warmed the hearts of those around her. The fund was created to provide a way to do something meaningful as our response to this tragedy. She cared deeply about improving her community and helping those in need, and her enduring legacy will be supported through this fund.

The fund – established as a donor advised fund –  is a vehicle for granting sustainable financial support to nonprofit charities.  The Pierce Family will serve as advisors in the use of the funds. The United Way Board has approved $10,000 to seed the start of the fund.
